Balancing work and my personal life.
Today I struggle with the duties of my position interfering with my personal life. You see, it is a Saturday and I have to spend 16 hours working due to lack of adequate staffing. As a manager in this field, you have to give up your personal time for the sake of providing the appropriate care for the people that you support. The problem that I have in this situation is that I cannot convince the human resources department to provide strong enough candidates during the interview process in order for me to hire people that can perform the job. There exist a disconnect between people that work in the office behind the desk and myself who performs more than paper work and am hands on. Today I fell overburdened with having to give up another Saturday where I could have met up with some alumni to watch a PITT football game. I have been advised in previous meetings by directors in my company to find a better life to work balance, to which I laugh internally. It is always easy to come up with the solution when you are not responsible for the outcome. So today I struggle with balancing work and my personal life.
